The Cockalier is a mixed breed of dog which was developed after crossing the famous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and beloved Cocker Spaniel. This breed is a designer dog breed which inherited the best traits of his amazing parent dogs. There is not a lot of detailed information available as to this breed’s exact origin, however, it has a long history of making a great family pet.
Personality and Temperament
This breed is an energetic and active dog who loves playtime. They also enjoy the attention of their family and tend to be a pleasure to be around. They have social and upbeat personalities and very warm demeanors which make them fantastic family pets who do well with children and other pets in the home. They are also a very smart dog breed which makes training easy.
Appearance and Grooming
Cockaliers are relatively easy dogs to maintain. They are not heavy shedders or require excessive amounts of grooming. Daily brushing is recommended which will help keep their coats smooth and soft. Bathing this dog every four to five weeks will keep her coat shiny, healthy and looking its best. Routine nail clipping should also be incorporated into this breed’s care routine which will also help this pup feel and look her best.
Care and Feeding
Cockaliers are semi active dogs and do need ample amounts of energy to feel their best. The correct ratio of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats, will keep this breed healthy. Many Cockalier owners recommend feeding this dog two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. It is also very important to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues.
